Hulus Alpay is currently vice president of investor relations for Medidata Solutions, Inc. (Nasdaq: MDSO), where he reports to the CFO with a dotted line to the CEO. Prior to joining this newly public healthcare information technology company headquartered in New York City, Hulus was a Senior Consultant and Founder of Alpay Balanced Communications.
Hulus has over fifteen years of extensive investor relations consulting, financial media relations, crisis management, capital markets, research and management experience. He has provided strategic financial communications counsel to C-Level corporate executives and board members on a number of issues including the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, Corporate Governance, Regulation FD, Regulation G, management of investor perceptions and expectations, and a myriad of crisis situations. Programs he has overseen have efficiently utilized his client’s valuable time and resources to enhance their ability to compete for and attract new capital.
Hulus has orchestrated many investment community marketing and financial media awareness communications programs that have paved the way for successful public offerings and other capital formation efforts. Under his guidance, his clients have navigated the IPO process, improved their communication activities with Wall Street, attracted new research coverage, increased long-term institutional ownership, generated positive financial press coverage, and improved market perceptions. He has developed successful investor relations campaigns for and consulted with Fortune 1000 companies and promising start-ups in a myriad of industries.
Hulus has worked for a number of investor relations, global shareholder research and related advisory services firms, including The Carson Group, Morgan-Walke Associates and Makovky and Company. He has also held several research positions of increasing responsibility with Merrill Lynch Asset Management and the former Chairman of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
He is also an active member of the National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI), the New York Society of Security Analysts (NYSSA), the CFA Institute and a Level II CFA candidate. Hulus is currently on the Board of the New York Chapter of NIRI and served as its President in 2007-2008. He is also called upon as an expert to speak at various industry events and is regularly quoted in the national business and trade press.
Hulus began his career in communications as a Legislative Aide for the State of Connecticut writing speeches. He is a graduate of the University of Hartford and was awarded an MBA by Monmouth University in 1996.
