NIRI Elects Brad Wilks New Board Chairman

Vienna, VA – The National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI) today announced the election of Brad Wilks as the 2010 chairman of the NIRI Board of Directors. Wilks is Managing Director of Sard Verbinnen & Co, a leading provider of strategic corporate, financial and crisis communications counsel and services. He succeeds Bina Thompson, vice president, investor relations, Colgate-Palmolive Company (NYSE: CL).

“I am very pleased that the NIRI Board has elected Brad Wilks to this key position,” said Jeff Morgan, president and chief executive officer of NIRI. “Under outgoing Chair Bina Thompson’s successful leadership, NIRI made great strides in refocusing on its core mission areas. Brad is ideally suited to lead the board during this period of profound change, as we sustain our momentum and continue to increase the value NIRI delivers to our membership.”

Wilks said, “I am delighted and honored to be elected chair at this pivotal time for NIRI and the investor relations profession. The business, governance and regulatory challenges faced by issuers in the current environment represent an opportunity for NIRI to step up and deliver services to further enhance the relevancy and status of investor relations. I look forward to working with the board, staff and all our members to strengthen the bond between local chapters and NIRI staff and programs, and in supporting NIRI’s increased role in advocacy.”

“I would like to acknowledge the extraordinary contributions of our outgoing chair and fellow board members – Bina Thompson, Blair Christie, Beth Saunders and Catherine Mathis – during their past four plus years of NIRI board service,” Wilks continued. “It is through the generous commitment of time and expertise of members like these that NIRI continues to successfully meet the needs of all members.”

Brad Wilks’ primary career emphasis has been in serving as communications and investor relations counsel to senior executives at publicly traded corporations. His wide ranging experience includes mergers and acquisitions, proxy contests, litigation and crisis communications, product recalls, senior executive changes, etc. Prior to joining Sard Verbinnen, Wilks was managing director and head of the Chicago office of Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide. Prior to Ogilvy, Wilks was senior vice president and partner of Fleishman-Hillard, where he headed the firm’s financial communications and technology practices in Chicago. Before Fleishman-Hillard, Wilks was head of investor relations for Ball Corporation, where he was cited by Institutional Investor Magazine as one of America's best IR officers, according to a poll of security analysts and institutional investors. He began his career in public relations in New York as a senior associate with Adams and Rinehart. Wilks has a B.A. degree from Indiana University and an M.A. degree from Ball State University, where he was the John W. Hill Fellow.
